Franklin’s Friday Night Talk

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Our venue for Franklin’s talk has a seating capacity of ~160 people.  With pre-paid students and staff, we’re currently estimating that we’re already at half the number.  If you are planning on attending Franklin’s talk and haven’t already pre-paid, would you mind doing so now?  If response is overwhelming, we’ll consider moving the venue to a more spacious location.

To pre-pay for your ticket - click on the paypal registration form, scroll to the very bottom, and pick Friday Night, non-student or Friday Night, student - whichever is correct - and check out.  We’ve limited the inventory on this item, so don’t worry, it won’t let you buy it if there aren’t any tickets available.

Thank you!!

Volunteers Needed

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

We are looking for volunteers again this year.  Volunteers are integral to the smooth running of DFW Fiber Fest and are a great way to become involved.  Below is the schedule of time slots, the list of tasks we need help with, and how many per time slot. We are offering the following incentives for volunteers this year: 1. A free day pass to the vendor hall for the day you volunteer  AND 2. A chance at winning a volunteer only raffle.  One ticket per time slot worked. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Molly at volunteers@dfwfiberfest.org with the timeslots you are interested in.   Thank you in advance!

Charity Drive

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

This year’s charity item drive is for Jonathan’s Place - a children’s shelter in Dallas. We will be collecting handmade hats, scarfs, and blankets for them. They serve children age newborn - 17. Start stitching! About Jonathan’s Place: For 15 years, Jonathan’s Place has been taking care of the Dallas area’s youngest victims of abuse. Jonathan’s Place provides this care through two programs – a “home-style” emergency shelter for abused, abandoned and neglected children and a Foster & Adoptive Family Program. The emergency shelter provides specialized services and 24-hour residential care and is the only emergency shelter in Dallas County that provides residential services for children in crisis under the age of 10. In the Foster & Adoptive Family Program, Jonathan’s Place recruits potential foster and adoptive families, conducts a comprehensive training program and verifies the families as either foster, foster-to-adopt or adoptive families. At this point, Jonathan’s Place places children from Child Protective Services into the care of these families. Jonathan’s Place is the only organization in Dallas County and one of only a few organizations in the State of Texas that provides a continuum of care from crisis placement in an emergency shelter to placement with a foster family to, ultimately, adoption.
